How Are You Using The Gift of Choice?

God is very liberal in His relationship with Man. Since the formation of Man , God has given man, a freewill to make his choices. Why ? Man was made in the image of God and he is designed to rule on earth and partner in the creation process. God wants a mutual relationship with man based on trust. God loves man and by His nature, He is not overbearing. Adam and Eve were freely given the rights to eat all the trees in the garden of Eden with the exception of one- The Tree of Life ( Genesis 2:15-17). They had the choice to eat the forbidden fruit and die or not to live. God could have just commanded them to stay away from the Tree of Life but He decided to give them The Gift of Choice. They broke the trust, they misused the gift of choice, they chose death over life and faced the consequences.

The Gift of Choice was also extended to the Israelites when they were to possess the promised land, Moses admonished them in Deuteronomy 30:19 saying “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;” God gave them the choice of either life or death ,good or evil. People of old in the Bible ,took advantage of this Gift of Choice in their decision making, some wrongly ,some rightly with grave consequences. Few are listed below:

  • Moses, an Hebrew but brought up in the Egyptian palace made a choice when he was of age not be called a prince (Hebrews 11:24-25)
  • Lot, Abraham’s nephew chose for himself all the plain of Jordan ( Genesis 13:11)
  • Joseph, the dreamer made a choice not to lie with his master, Potiphar’s wife despite the pressure ( Genesis 39:7-10)
  • Ruth, a Moabite made a choice to go with Naomi, her mother in- law ( Ruth 1:15-17)
  • The beautiful Queen Vasthti, made a choice not to answer the call of her husband, King Ahasuerus ( Esther 1:10-12)
  • Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, made a choice to follow the counsel of his age group ( 1 Kings 12: 7-11).
  • Samson, a Nazarite made a choice to marry Delilah ( Judges 16:4)
  • Mary made a choice to submit her womb for the passage of Jesus into the earth (Luke 1:30-38)
  • Mary Magdalene, the brother of Lazarus, made a choice to anoint Jesus with fragrant oil ( Luke 7: 37-38)
  • Peter, the Rock made a choice to return to fishing after the death of Jesus ( John 21:3)

By extension, you also has been endowed with the Gift of Choice or freewill. How are you using your gift ?Are you abusing the gift or using it in line with the will of God? Are you choosing like Ruth or Vasthti or like Moses or Rehoboam? Choices are part of life. Every choices made impact on your relationship with God and on many others. Choices come with costs and consequences, hence the need for right choices. Without the Gift of Choice there would have been no judgement ( 2 Cornithians 5:10, Ecclesiastes 12:14) . Have you made some bad choices in the past? Make amends and start making right and good ones henceforth. Do not follow the path of Rehoboam by making foolish and irresponsible decisions and loose your inheritance nor that of Samsom who chose a lust over his anointing . Rather, make choices like Joseph, shun the devil and all his deceits and fulfill destiny, make choices out of love and sacrifices like Ruth and be part of history and God’s plans. Choose out of obedience like Mary and be the greatest, choose boldly and wisely like Joshua to serve God with your households ( Joshua 24:15).

Choose Life, Choose Jesus – The Way, the Truth and the Life ( John 14:6 ) . Choose Salvation and not Damnation. Choosing Jesus means you loose the Gift of Choice for He had no freewill , everything was done in accordance with the will of His Father ( John 5:19). Brethren, it is better to do away with the gift of freewill and do the will of God and submit to His good plans ( Jeremiah 29:11) Do not lean on your own capacity and wisdom , engage the Holy Spirit in choices, He has promised to instruct and teach you on the way to go ( Psalms 32:8) . Choose to be sincere and serious with your relationship with God. Choose in line with the will of God for your life so as to attain and fulfill purpose in addition to enjoy prosperity in every aspects of your life.

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil (Ecclesiastes 12: 13-14), hence the need to choose wisely and rightly always.
